OUR mission

The Bank Sampah project marked a milestone for the Foundation

By fully supporting the local female community the Bank Sampah project aims to reduce waste pollution, create employment opportunities, and encourage female empowerment. This eco-sustainable project allows women to earn a living to support their families whilst cleaning up beach areas with waste that is recycled and reused.

WHY ARE YOU HELPING?

Similar to many remote locations across Indonesia, the female population of Torok Raya face many challenges in their daily lives. Some of these challenges include:

  • LITTLE OR NO JOB OPPORTUNITIES: This leads to starvation, homelessness, poor quality of life, and the inability to support their families.
  • LACK OF KNOWLEDGE: Due to a lack of education, these women have gone through generations without understanding the importance or health benefits of waste management/recycling.
  • LACK OF ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS: The local communities in Indonesia do not understand the importance of cleaning the environment and in persevering the landscapes.

HOW YOU ARE HELPING

This project empowers the local women by giving them a daily purpose to make a difference. Not only are they gaining the opportunity to be employed and provide for their families but they are also learning valuable knowledge in the process. In addition to this various life skills are picked up along the journey of employment. By supporting this project you are helping the local women to feel a sense of pride and as though they are giving back to their local community. Each individual woman that works on the project has been through or is currently going through hardships and embraces this opportunity to feel a sense of belonging and purpose.
